Artist Bio
Connie Rigdon is a contemporary abstract artist whose work delves into the complex relationship between the natural world and the built environment. Her art explores the chaotic beauty of nature alongside humanity’s intrinsic need for order, a tension she expresses through intuitive and spontaneous abstract expressionism. This is evident in the two distinct lines of work within her repertoire: dynamic abstract expressionist pieces and abstracted landscapes, inspired by her travels and memories of place.
Connie’s evolution from architecture to abstraction was a natural progression, as her architectural designs were always informed by the interplay between nature and manmade structures. Her training as an architect, combined with her years of problem-solving in that field, now feeds into her contemporary art practice, creating a perfect union of her two passions. Each piece reflects her deep understanding of space, form, and the environment around her.
With a Master of Architecture, Connie had an established architectural practice before dedicating herself fully to art. She has exhibited in numerous group shows throughout the Midwest and East Coast, earning several awards. Currently, Connie lives and works in Charleston, South Carolina, where she continues to explore and refine her abstract visual language.
Artist Statement
As an intuitive painter, my work is a reflection of the physical, emotional, and spiritual environments I experience. Each painting begins in a place of energy and chaos, drawn from the moment’s intensity. From there, I embark on a journey to calm and organize that energy, allowing my emotions to guide the process.
The evolution of each piece is never the same; the dialogue between the canvas and myself is always changing, fluid, and responsive to the present. Ultimately, my goal is to offer viewers a sense of peace—a gateway into the world that lies beneath the surface. The calm that emerges from the initial energy is what I hope will resonate, inviting them to connect and experience the deeper tranquility within.
